About
The Saltykov-Shchedrin Museum has been in existence since July 27, 1986. For thirty-two years, the museum was located in the ancestral church of the Saltykovs of the Transfiguration of the Lord (Spas-Ugol village, Taldoma city district).
In 2019, a new modern building, a two-storey building, was built for the museum.
The Saltykov-Shchedrin Museum in the village of Spas is a special corner. Here, every meter of space is associated with the novel "Poshekhonskaya antiquity." "I grew up in the bosom of serfdom, nursed by the milk of a serf nurse, raised by serf nurses, and finally taught to read and write by a serf scholar..." Saltykov-Shchedrin wrote about himself. The atmosphere and life of his ten-year-old growing up are easily presented to museum visitors with the help of numerous exhibits depicting the village in detail at the beginning of the 19th century.
During interesting excursions, the exhibits literally come to life and are transported back to the era of Saltykov-Shchedrin.
You can also visit the ancestral church of the Saltykovs of the Transfiguration of the Lord, where the future writer was baptized; make a cherished wish at the Milestone "135 versts from Moscow"; wander through the alleys of the estate, see the century-old lime trees that still remember Saltykov-Shchedrin and imbue with the "spirit of Saltykov."
We offer to have an interesting time with the whole family, with friends or with the class. We have an individual approach.
We offer you sightseeing tours of the museum and the ancestral estate, cultural and educational programs with master classes, quests, quizzes, and herbal tea with cookies and homemade jam.
